PCM data on PCI bus - is there PCM to PCI bridge?

PCM data on PCI bus

Dear friends,

We are designing PCI Bus Based PCB. Requirement is such that I get PCM data (voice samples) from 8 channels and i need to route it on PCI bus.

Is there is any PCM to PCI bridge IC? or any IC that will take data from local Bus and put it on PCI bus??

Or Do we need to use FPGA and all to make it PCI Bus compatable.

32 bit PCI bus, and sampled bits are 8 bits of PCM data.

Please help me in this regard...

Hi

You will need a PCI bridge IC to interface the PCI bus

There are several FPGA who can handle the work

You will also need some voice band A/D converter in order to convert the incoming audio into PCI data

Or you can use one high speed A2D with an analog multiplexer on the input

Using an FPGA to do the work is preferable

Bobi,

We are using SLIC IC for the interface toward the subscriber side and i'll get PCM output.

I'm not worried about getting PCM o/p.

My concern is in pumping these 8 bit of pcm data on the PCI Back Plane Bus.

Can i have info regading PCI Bridge IC, Can you suggest me a few?

Can you also suggest me any method to accomplish in FPGA. ie PCM data on PCI bus logic?

PCI Bridge IC will have a certain input format to which i've to modify in FPGA,how do we do that?

Can u Explain about the Exact purpose of BAR in PCI?

Dear Friends,

After lot of brain storming, we finally came to conclusion of using some communciaton processor from freescale, which has inbuilt PCI interface pretty much like SPI bus.

(OR)

We can easily go ahead with FPGA usying some free PCI Core available on Net.
