hi

if i want to rotate a component inallegro, then (in placement edit appmode) i grab/move it, rightclick>rotate, then i pull the curcor around the component.

lots of other design programs have an option to drag a component, press ctrl+R (or space or any other shortcut key) then the component rotates a fixed 90 degrees step left. it is kind of a standard, and i dont need to move the cursor from my position.

this "rotate with the cursor" in allegro is very annoying, because the cursor jumps before/after the rotation. is there a ctrl+r fixed rotation mode in allgero with leaving the cursor in place during that?

Re: rotation in allegro

Use spin.......................

rotation in allegro

spin does the same thing as the rotate, requiring me to move the cursor around the component.
my question was, how to avoid the need of moving the cursor around for rotation at fixed 90deg steps.

Re: rotation in allegro

Right mouse context menu allows you to set many parameters, remember the more expensive the software the less user friendly it becomes.
There are no doubt keystrokes, or you could define a mouse stroke for convenience, often not understood by Designers who've never used BoardStation, its one good point.

As I have mentioned before regarding Allegro, make sure you work with Control Menu. Has nothing to do being unfriendly is all there look again!

Old post, but rather annoying answers imho.
Ie type "funckey r iangle 90" in the command window to enable rotation with r key while moving.
(More info easily found elsewhere (ie. the Cadence forums); but this thread comes high in Google ;-)

And how do you FLIP a footprint symbol in Vertical and Horizontal ? Thanks

I guess that would "mirror"? However, Allegro will then move the symbol to the other side of the board and you would need change the required layers.
But I can't imagine what footprint you would actually want to mirror? If the footpring is mirrored the component won't fit in real life...(unless it could as well "just" have been rotated)...
