Dear all, I am trying to use encounter to generate a digital block, but I didn't know how to define the pin file because there are many pins, someone tell me that I can
make a floorplan in virtuoso, then streamout the fp in ascii format which will contains all the pin/boundary info, and wirte a script to convert the ascii file to encounter pin file format, and then import the file into encounter, this will be ok, anyone can give me some advise about this?

I dont think you can do the floorplan in virtuoso & import it in Encounter. Why dont you do the pin placement manually & then write out the IO definition file. I know manual pin placement will be tough if your design has more pins.

Others can share their views..

yes, kumar, just as you said, if I did it manually, it would be crazy. I am thinking a fast&good way to do this job...

I talked to some of my friends regarding the same, they also said that pin placement needs to be done manually. There are 2 ways.. Either you do it manually or write the IO file with pin placement details and load it in encounter shell.

Hi kumar,

I found another way: first, I use virtuoso-xl to generate a floorplan which contains the boundary/pins/test, (I thinks generate and place pin in vxl will more easy then in SE?), and then streamout the fp as a ascii file, and finally, i write a script to convert the fp file to iofile, and now, the file can work in encounter now.

it was tough but a little effective I think.

We used to get it from the Architecture/design team.. i have never done any floorplan, so I dont know even what are all ways that we can do the floorplan..

Halo egg, I am having the same problem that you had. Have you found a simple solution for creating a floorplan in virtuoso and exporting to .fp format? I see that you wrote a script for converting the ASCII file to .fp, how did you do this? Could you write a generic script that can convert any floorplan or was it specific to the floorplan that you had to export?
