expert system mesh cst edaboard

Hi:
I am trying to simulate a electromagnetic levitation problem in CST EM studio. I set the mesh property like this:
Lower mesh limit : 30
Ratio limit :50
and using the adaptive mesh during the calculation, the results converges within 5 passes.
To validate the results I got, I increased the meshes(By changing the equilibrate mesh ratio in special(global mesh property)). Then I got large number of meshcells. Again run the simulation (adaptive mesh ), It takes langer time but still the results converges within 5 passes. However the results I got now is different than I got before(less meshcells). (100 uN before, and -12 uN with large number of meshcells) So I don't know which results should I trust ? Is that wise to change the equilibrate mesh ratio?

can anyone help me with this problem ? thanks a lot !

cst expert system mesh

Sorry I have no specific advice regarding your particular problem.

I've seen this happen alot with this software. Sometimes it's understandable; for example, maybe you have some small feature that would be expected to have a relatively large effect, e.g., a small air gap in a high permeability magnetic core, and it just doesn't get meshed properly until you intervene and modify the mesh.

Other times, you just get significantly different results with no obvious reason for it.

What irritates me most is the difference in results I often see between hex and tet mesh, or between the "expert system" and "energy based" hex adaptive meshing.
Another annoyance is the poor documentation.

I've been putzing around with CST EM Studio for quite a while, and I now have very little faith in it...it's hard to trust the software when the software doesn't even agree with itself.

Re: help in CST

Is there any website where i can find tutorials to learn CST. I have never used CST before.

help in CST

Thanks, Jpsmith123, are you using some other softwares which you have faith in? I am considering to use COMSOL for my simulation. Do you have any experience in it ?

Hello Wendy,

I've never used COMSOL, so I don't know much about it.

Lately I've been experimenting with Ansoft Maxwell, but I'm not familiar enough with it yet to say much about it.

I've heard some positive things about SEMCAD, but I haven't tested it yet. I think it's next on my list.
