ns2 network coding

Hi all,
i am a b-tech final student in ECE. For the final year project, i need some sincere help from u all. I am interested to work in the field of wireless comm. I have thought of some areas in which I can work on; so tell me whether its feasible enough or not.
a. Analysis of the performance of 802.11 in supporting voip
b. Sensor networks
c. Network coding
d. cooperative communication

To get some ideas, I have read several ieee papers and i've found that in many cases, they seem to use the ns2 network simulator to support their observation. I am a complete novice in ns2 software. So, I'm quite apprehensive whether i can understand it or not.

Moreover, the project should not be too theoretical. So asking your sincere advices from u all. Help me to select the right topic for my project.
Regards,
vincent

I suppose that the good topic for you is tppic a) Analysis of the performance of 802.11 in supporting voip + using NS2.
You will employ the NS2 to simulate and anlyze the VoIP though the 802.11.
Good luck and have a good result!!

Hey hi cachep...

Thanks a lot for ur advice.....but i need to ask u one thing...will the topic be too theoretical????.....m quite skeptical 'bout dis....do reply...

I'm wondering what performance you refer to in a? Is it the number of simultaneous users that can be supported by the air interface?

hey hi rmf_rncperf

i mean simulating the performance of it in case of wireless mesh networks or so.....or devising any new methods or protocol to improve is performance in transmitting voice data over the network...

OK, I see.. Here are some thoughts that may or may not be valid.

1) VoIP is a very delay-sensitive application, that could be an issue when it's implemented in a mesh network.

2) I don't know anything about the protocol you mention, but what I do know is that VoiP packets usually small, less that 30 bytes. They can bundle maybe 4 or so but the packets are still pretty small. That puts a strain on any component in the system (usually everything except the air interface) that is sensitive to the packet per second rate.

Not sure if that helped or not, anyway good luck
