230 transformer

Hello

Please can some one help me with the following problem.

I wish to control the mains 230V feeding to transformer (230/12) which runs a halogen lamp.

However i wish to interface this design and automate it by using a PIC18F series.

I know there are serveral solutions like frequency control, voltage control and wave chopping action via TRAIC.

Im aware that its not that simple with TRIAC based light dimmer to simply control an inductive load.

I also tried this circuit (fan dimmer) which i found from the internet and interfaced the TRIAC with the PIC at its gate section.....

**broken link removed**

This circuit worked , however the POT over heated too quickly. I tried replacing it with a 5W 1kOhm resistor...but that too over heated.....i then tried a simple short circuit by a wire. Now this solved the over heating problem at this end....however now the TRIAC is over heating.....

Please Please help on how to minimize the excessive heating in the circuit?

trafo 230 / 17 volt

what kind of control do you want achieve ?

By control do you mean control the voltage (230 VAC) being fed to the bulb. ??

thanks

voltage control through transformer

Hello

Thanks for replying.

YES....that is exactly what i mean..........control the voltage being fed to the transformer primary by controlling the firing angle.

So please can you suggest a fix to the overheating problem?

thanks

Hai hhhsssmmm
Which circuit are you using now which has a heating problem? The circuit from Microchip or the fan regulator circuit ?

transformer primary voltage controller circuit

Hi

Im using the circuit from microchip....

please can you help with the heating issue?

thanks

5w resistor overheating

Can you please post the schematic here and do mark which componnets get heated. Too let me know what is the load (watts) you control through the circuit?

Hi,
Instead of following the Microchip one, why you are not making one by yourself. By that way you will be clear of all doubts. As my knowledge goes, that application note is not for bulb rather for some heating elements or like that and that is different from your requirement.
Thanks.
