pk2v023200.hex

I made a compilation of data needed to create functioning PicKit2, which was tested with:

PIC16F84A
PIC16F628
PIC16F628A
PIC16F88
PIC16F876
PIC16F876A
PIC16F877A
PIC18F2550
PIC18F4550

You'll find attachmen, which contains 4 subfolders:

main: 1,2,3,4(.mht), where building and parts of scheme are described and pickit2.mht which is the same clone, but from another source. If both documents are read, failure should drop to zero.

firmware: In here it's PicKit2 firmware(PK2V023200.hex), it's practically irrelevant which version, because it will 'automatically' update when connected.

SCH_PCB: In here it's original scheme/PCB, and one modified by me for standard resistors and components, also another which have in title "LC_different"(skip this one, in my beautiful city you can't even buy standard components...)

Parts: BOM+some possible part changes in brackets, datasheets

Someone could ask, why bother when kits are widely available, but available where, definitely not here, so this post is for those who till now tortured them selfs with JDM, modified JDMs, P16PRO40 and excuse me on my expression, crap. It cost me 80% of time just to program anything!
NOT ANYMORE! Pickit2 clone works flawlessly, yes there are no 24LC512 EEPROMs, but who needs them, and it can't program 3.3V parts.

You will have to program PIC18F2550 with PK2V023200.hex, I tried and tried with ART2003 programmer(LPT), don't bother, go to friend, colleague or college(uni).
I programmed mine with a beauty called PM3.

Needed files are:
PICkit2 User Guide.pdf
PICkit 2 software
which can be found on Microchip site:

Well that's it, hope it will help and work, as it did for me.

pickit3

Ohhh funny, you are so funny, I'm promoting free, let me say again FREE.

So that people who can't afford to buy it, can create alone Pickit 2 for far less money then what you or any other 'helper' can offer.

I'm going to have to ask you or anyone else not to promote your products here OR you can, but you must offer full schematics + PCB in Eagle, OrCAD or DeepTrace and not just useless low quality pictures of one side of board which is multi layered or useless documentation.
Maybe you ask why, well so we can all copy and reproduce your product for FREE, yeah FREE.

I hope that you understood, what I'm trying to do here, if not, I'll gladly explain again.

pic16f876a 24lc512 circuit

I must be blind, but I can't find PCB design(expect useless low quality out proportions pictures of PCB) files in Eagle, OrCAD, DeepTrace, ExpressPCB, PCB123 or any other extension.

Dear Jhanus
All the best you have done a wonderful job.. I really appritiate your efferts, we really need people like you on forum who promot new ideas for the sake of help others rather than money. This forum is pure for contributions and help not for any sort of adveritizement. Any ways best of luck.

My sincere thanks, you are the first one to thank me after relatively long time.
I know that capitalism rules most of our hearts, but some of us believe in better future.

Thanks, and all the best!

I agree this board is starting to get to much self promotion, advertisements.

I don't begrudge anyone trying to make an honest living but it's getting ridiculous.

Maybe they should set up new category were members can post there web sites and products. That way those who are interested can look those who aren't don't.

Jhanus thanks for sharing your project. I just bought a PIKiT2, but I'm sure others will use it and appreciate your efforts as well.

That's right, it's totally moronic to replay, 'look at me I have PicKit2 for 1 dollar less then original' to question of type 'what transistor replacement to use', or e.g. this thread, I post free and working project and to replay with same project for money is simply ridicules and stupid.

Let them make their own category which no one will anyways look at and stop trolling normal threads.

jhanus pickit

The problem with a DIY PICKit2 is the 18F2550 needs to be preprogrammed (jhanus used a PM3 programmer not exactly in everyones parts drawer). Another gotcha is the use of an LVP programmer may put the 18F2550 in continuous bootloader mode since the PGM pin is the bootloader button on the PK2.

All the PICkit2's Mine, funnynypd & Microchip are under $50US and they all include professionally made PCBs and preprogrammed 18F2550. FYI the first Junebug (PK2) prototype was handwired and worked like a charm.

But sometimes, there is no helping.
Whatever...

bom pickit 3

Having electronics as a hobby is one thing and making money out of it is another one...

they just don't get it... or maybe they are really hungry...

pickit2

Blueroom & funnynypd :
To ship your products means adding another $15-25 which moves the total investment (for the hobbyist) up significantly. What we can afford to invest is - time. And after the mistakes there may be regrets of not going to you in the first place.
Maybe. But we are aware of you two, on many forums ( electro-tech , microchip, mp3car, etc). Perhaps you two should be moved to a sticky, because you hijack the homebrew discussions way to often.

pcb123 is crap

There are exchange rates, and customs duties ($9 on a $27 futurlec order!) and being a student in a 3rd world country. Not to mention the small matter of a global credit crunch ... as well as the looming Pickit3.

It is more feasible to muck around with the DIY blueroom pk2 prototype on a matrix board, for some of us - until we are ready for the real thing - or a pro clone.

schematic of pikit2 diy

You shouldn't torture yourself, they won't stop.

It just looks like that he's making a conversation, but in fact it's a monologue, all they do is promote(try finding one post where they aren't).
Every goddam thread they infest with that crap, unbelievable, boycott funnynypd and blueroomelectronics!!!!, that'll teach them.

I don't think there is anyone failed yet on our CB0703 (PICkit 2) DIY kits. And we do provide helps and supports when people made mistakes.

Here is few issues reported from fans and fixes we provided:
1. Solder irons is too hot, and damaged one Transistor; Action from Au Group Electronics: three spare parts were send, Customer used one get the CB0703 working and kept the rest two for his other projects.
2. A Customer ordered one CB0703 board only and has plenty parts from his own inventory. During assembly, One Tan cap was placed in the wrong direction, lead to other circuit damage. Action from Au Group Electronics: tech support on identifying the damaged circuit, customer fixed the Tan Cap and damaged IC issue, everything working like a charm thereafter.

This is what you are doing, you could say taking out of context.

hehehe
ahhh

Your Lab-Easy pcb is tempting (Double sided -PTH- blue mask), too tempting. I only wish that some Indian guys make it for the hobbyists over here.

LVP prog is now confirmed non compatible for any upgrade by another person.

Finally the best appears JUNEBUG. Are you likely to have another programmer, this time PK3 clone-- and call it "COME SEPTEMBER"

dipmicro made an improved version of the LAB-EASY PCB with SOIC pads.

18F2550 CAN be programmed with LVP, but I suggest NOT to program it by LVP.
Secondly, why would someone with sane mined buy something what he can get for free.

Please, do not continue to sell your products in my thread, because we are not interested in paying anything what we can get for free.

And it's not tempting at all.

If you want to sell make your own thread and stop hijacking threads from others.
