quadrant control

1)How to design a high power DC/DC converter for EV accepting 4 quadrant control.
Input: 48 (4 cells) to 96V (8 cells)
Out: 200V
Power: 1KW to 4 KW (inital try is 1kW then boost to 4kW)
2)Also, I use Power Mosfet or IGBT is better in my converter?
3)S/W freq is 100kHz is ok?
My proposed design is "Phase shifted H-bridge series-resonant converter"
4) This circuit is ok?

Title: High power electric vehicle power converter

a) Develop a high current DC-DC converter

b) Examine the techniques for motor load and battery sources

Brief Description:

The electric vehicle requires a power conditioner for the voltage conversion from the battery voltage to the motor drive. For town car, the voltage of the battery varies from 48V to 96V and the motor voltage is over 200V. Some other design uses 48V motor.

The motor start up current is large and the nominal current is also high as well. The proposed convert is designed for the specification and can accept 4 quadrant control. A non-isolated converter will be examined.

4 quadrant control in swedish

It's a usually topology and can surely work this way. But it's obviously a 2-quadrant design.

high power converter

yes, so add transistor parallel to DF1,2,3,4, ok?

Re: High power converter for 4 quadrant control

Yes, then you get 4Q capabilities. It may be advisable to split the resonance capacitor between primary and secondary to prevent transformer saturation without sophisticated measurement and controls.

You also asked regarding MOSFET or IGBT? For the low voltage side, MOSFET are clearly preferable for their lower saturation voltages at any frequency, with 100 kHz operating frequency also the high voltage bridge should be MOSFET.

I'm not sure about the meaning of Phase shifted H-bridge. Does it imply a variable phase shift? I think the timing is mainly determined by the resonance frequency, zero current switching is only possible for full cycles.

High power converter for 4 quadrant control

Thanks FvM,
1)Can you tell me details of how to split the C ?
2)100kHz is just my idea, not must, so any suggest for my project about frq and IC used?
3)Phased shifted means use phase shift to obtain the desired voltage level rather than change duty cycle since it is constant frq, am I right?

Also, I updated my post(posted detail of my project)

Re: High power converter for 4 quadrant control (Updated)

Splitting the capacitor means using two capacitors of doubled capacitance each at primary and secondary. The resonance frequency is mainly determinded by the transformer leak inductance and the total (series) capacitance.

I can imagine phase shifted bridge control, but it means giving up the ZCS principle to my opinion. Generally, the series-resonant converters I know are providing a fixed voltage translation (1:1 with equal windings) and are basically operated without feedback control. Do you refer to different concepts?

High power converter for 4 quadrant control (Updated)

yes, thanks a lot, I got confused la
I asked my Prof, he suggested me to use Phase-shifted converter. He said both phase shift and resonant converter are ok.
If I use phase shift converter, is it good?
can you suggest the IC name of mosfet and phase shift control IC and feedback control IC

Added after 11 minutes:

I change my design circuit la, please see
I propose to use :
Phase-shift converter
S/W Freq:100kHz
Component: Power MosFET
Can any one teach me how to design the rating of all component and suggest the IC to my project

High power converter for 4 quadrant control (new idea)

New question, Which ICs should I use for power mosfet and controller and other component?

There are various IC for driving u can go with following link
