Reading MATLAB data into a VHDL file

Can any body guide me on how to use VHDL to read data from MATLAB and write the data ouput in a text file. Pl. elaborate using simple example.

file filename:text open write_mode is "c:\filename.dat"
 

This is only for writing the data what about reading part?

i didn'tb understand you well,could you clarify?
you want to use .vhdl in matlab?
