how to replace a component in cadstar

Hi,
When i edit anything in the footprint (component in cadstar) in Cadstar and try to update it reflects in the layout this is what it has to happen.

but only in case of reference designators when i change the layer in the component level and update (Reload) in layout it does not update the reference attributes.

can anyone let me know why this is not getting updated

Thanks...

cadstar 9 bugs

There are also tick boxes for the attributes, you need to select those also.

"Reload library attributes".

try that & let us know.

Hi V_kumar

I also faced the same problem.Problem is once ,part is placed in layout editor,it does not reload the layer of reference designator layer.

i f anyone having workaround,plz share

Regards
abhishek

Actually i have tried this but it is not working and i have mentioned this to their customer support guys and did not get any solution till now.

Ultimately we have to wait for them to reply.

I have one more way to do that.
1) note down the placement coordinate for that particular component.
2) delete the component.
3) reload the ECO
4) give the same coordinates so that it is exactly placed where it was earlier present.

Or place another dummy component, like a documentation symbol at the origin.
then you can ensure that you can replace it where it originaly was.

By the way, what version of Cadstar are you referring to?

And what precisely are you trying to get at?

Your saying that when reloading/replacing a component Cadstar does not replace/reload the reference name.
OR that when it reloads the component it does not change the reference name to the layer that you have it on? (is this different to that which is in the library?)

1) Actually at first by mistake i have placed the referance attribute on the assempley top while creating the component footprint.
2) after importing in layout and placement, i was aligning the refrance and i found that for few components it is not on the silkscreen top and is present on assembly top.
3) for this i modified it in the library by changing the attribute "component name" to SST top layer and relod the component in the layout .
4) after reloding, still the referance does not change to silkscreen top i.e. the attribute does not get updated even after selecting its option in the Reload menu.

Try the steps above and you will come to know the problem

Hi kumar,
you can directly change reference in layout by following this step
first make only assembly top visible with only component name made visible and pickable now select all ref name and through item propeties you can change them from assy top to SST or even you can change their size.

Ricky

Yes what Ricky is saying is right and already done that way.

but the thing is that it must have been done automatically and a designer does not have to waste time in doing it manualy after changing it in the library.

I have reported this issue to cadstar support because it is a bug.

Hi ,

I agree that it is 60 second operation, but overall it is a bug.why we are increasing one more step to our design process.Already there are too much reworks..

In my views,it must be done automatically

Hi,
I am not saying that it is not a bug but till Zuken people come up with something, we have to do this.
we could not hold our design waiting for Zuken people to come up with something.
So what I mentioned is just a way to overcome the issue.

You can create yourself a colour file that shows only the reference names, also a macro to include the colour file that will do the change.
So in fact it is then only a 1 second operation.

I think the problem may stem from your moving the reference names off of the original layer that they were defined in the library. Perhaps it is recognising that you did this, thinking that you did this for a good reason it is not changing them back because it would then perhaps upset you. I know it would upset me if it continually put them back on the default layer after I had spent so much time moving them all.

So perhaps its not so much a bug as an intended part of the relevant feature, admittedly it may need a tick box/selection to "reset attribute layers".

IMO it is not one more step in the design process, we define what layer the refnames go on in the library, this is the default way of doing it in Cadstar.
You have just done something different & now expect the update to change it back for you.

If you want your refnames on a different layer then either change them in the library, add different named origins on different layers & use the report file method, or just change them as advised.

IMO its not a bug, a bug is a feature that does not work. This feature does work its just that it does not cater for what you are wanting it to do.
:D :D
