I can't find any way to move components / footprints to the bottom layer in Altium Designer except for double-clicking each pad in order and specifying the new layer. There surely must be a much better way to do this (shortcut meny etc)?

Ideally, i would like to use a directive already in the schematics since i already know at schematics capture time that decoupling caps etc should be on the bottom layer.

right click the components and mirror it

In the PCB editor when you are moving or placing a component, just hit the hotkey "L" and the component is moved to the opposite side of the board.

In the Library Editor, when you are placing the pads initially, hit the hotkey "Tab" for the first pad, and select the bottom layer. All of the pads you place from then on will be on the bottom layer.

Another way to move things to another layer in the Library Editor is to use "Find Similar Objects". Once the matching objects are found, just change the layer in the Library Inspector Panel - that does a global change.

or just select multiple object at once (like you select multiple files in windows explorer: at once, or one-by one, but holding the shift key), and use the inspector, as house_cat has described it.

One word of caution. Remember that when you move a component to the bottom layer, you have to also "flip" or "mirror" it. If you just place pads in the Library Editor without thinking about the orientation of the component, you could end up with a footprint that is reversed. When you use the "L" key in the PCB Editor to move an object to the opposite side of the board, the mirroring is taken care of for you. When you build the component footprint from scratch in the Library Editor, you have to think about the orientation yourself. I always build component footprints as a top view in the Library Editor, and then flip them to the bottom in the PCB Editor if necessary - that avoids having to think "backwards" when building the footprint.

Thanks House_Cat and buenos, this was exactly what i was looking for! I generally create footprints non-mirrored and flip them over in the PCB editor as needed. I am still amazed (and grateful) that you good folks take the time to help others out here. I hope to be able to do the same when i can.
