Dear friends

I have problem in my design.
There is a relay that must be switch a high voltage low current capacitive load but when relay go to switch a big spark occurs between contacts.
Circuit worked as electronic clutch for “Elko” AC motor that originally work mechanically in motor and I convert it to electronic version. Every thing is ok except relay .
please give me a good solution.

Sparking can be minimized by placing series connection of 100ohm resistor and 10n-100n capacitor accross relay contacts.

You can also use VDR (voltage dependent resistor) to minimize this effect.

best regards

So Thanks Borber and C-man

I know that I must use RC or VDR at contact cross but how must I calculate RC and VDR type?

Best regards

For RC I always used 220 ohms in series with 100n / 400V.

For VDR you must consult the data sheet. Most VDR have the voltage to be used for written on them so 230 means for 230 volts.

best regards
