I want to know what are the steps that occur once we switch on our GSM phone until it acquires the intended network BCCH. How does the phone scan for the existing networks and locks on to a particular BCCH? Can anyone provide me with such sequence of events or suggest a url?

Dear magnetra

when you switch on your mobile,it does the following:

1-it scans all 124 carriers of GSM and calculates the average power of each of them

2-it tries the highest carrier power to determine whether it is a BCCH carrier or not by checking the FCCH channel,if it isn't a BCCH carrier,it tries the next carrier power, and so on until it founds the BCCH carrier

3-If it gets a BCCH carrier,it get assured that this BCCH carrier belongs to its home PLMN by checking the data sent on SCH channel(BSIC)

4-so if it gets a BCCH carrier belongs to its home PLMN,it'll read the BCCH data from the BCCH channel at this carrier

That step by step was really helpful. Could you refer me to any article/notes/url which explains this process in detail.
Best regards
