hi,
I want to connect a pc to some masters via RS485 protocol. I want to know the maximum number of slaves that I can add to this network and maximum length that I can acheive without using repeaters? (Actually I googled it and found thatthis protocol support 32 driver and 32 receiver but I did not get that how this implemetation works, each driver versus each receiver or each driver versus 32 receiver?)
looking forward to any help...

thanks,

the maximum length depends strongly on the communication speed. If the speed was set correctly and you have proper terminating resistors you could get without problems 1.5 km distance between transmitter and receiver.
The number of receivers is limited to 32 because of the driving abilities of the transmitter. If you have shorter distance and calmer environment you could definetly add more receivers (personally I experimented with >50).
