Hi Experts,

Can we draw any area in Cadstar which is keepout for Copper only ,The area may include Vias/traces..
Thanks in advance
Best regards
Abhi

You can draw a track around the area which you donot want to have copper in so you will not have copper pouring in side the area covered by track but you can route and put viain it.
I hope this works give it a try.

There are a few ways to do this.

Draw an area and mark it as "No Routes" - this applies to copper too.

In PREditor or the Embedded Router you can also select "Allow in no routing areas" to overule this setting.

Or - simply add a cutout to the template for the area, that way you can route within it yet not pour copper within the cutout.

Hi

Anonymous_Ricky
The method you told is applicable for few cases and requires more efforts,,and may not be applicable in case of complex shapes..

Mattylad
Method provided by u,is explaining how to draw no copper area in any copper template.
My requirement is different.I need route and via in particular area but dont want to allow any copper in that region.Presently i draw area of no route/no via and do the routing with errors allowed option on..so finally it ends up with DRC errors that i need to ignore manually one by one.

Thanks for your time.

The above is how to do it he way you want.
I may be wrong!!

As cyberrat pointed out the option of using cutout for the mentioned issue..

In my opinion if you make any cutout in Cadstar,it would be part of board area .I agree ,it will be keepout for copper but again if i want to route ,i need to use errors allowed option. Also it would be keepout for all layers so that's again issue

The option is Very simple in PADs tool, that is why i asked

Thanks for your help

Regards
Abhi

After re reading what you are wanting then the method is as follows:

1) Create your copper pour template on the layer that you want copper on.
2) Change drawing mode to "cutout" select the template and draw the cutout shape in the template how you want it to be.
3) Pour your copper template in either the embedded router or PREditor.

Doing this you will be able to pour copper in the area that you want it and miss the area that you do not want it
also route and add vias in the area that the cutout covers.

The cutout is not part of the board, it is only part of the copper pour template.

This is the way to do it, adhering to your design rules and to achieve the desired result and is simple to do.

Do you need a movie of how to do this?

Hi Mattylad,

Thanks for the method you provided and it was really very helpful for me
Earlier my understanding was ,cutouts are only related to board/profile area and that was the point i was wrong. Thanks for correcting me
