telephone dialer circuit

I need to make a DTMF/pulse dialer, and I can't find dedicated chips here, so I'm using a microcontroller. What I want to know is what are the electronics for interfacing a microcontroller to the phone line. Can someone help me?

I would also like to know where can I find a reliable description about how the line states are signaled on PSTN's, and all the necessary details for making a basic simplex modem around a uC.

I repeat, dedicated solutions are not an option because of the poor avalability of such chips.

Thank you.

PS: sorry for the double post, I didn't know what is the most appropriate section

You can realize a very simple line interface using the Clare CPC5610
LITELINK device, is a complete line interface circuit without mechanical parts like relay.

Simplest I have ever seen is the RAT circuit, check out this website:

Hi,

Try this link:

it might help you!!!

Check Zarlink's DTMF transmitter/receiver

And try also to search for example after MT8880,
there are some projects with this IC.

The bad thing is that I have to use pulse dialing. What is recommendable for it, an opto-coupler?

Z80,
Do you want make a dialing by pulse or DTMFs?
If you need dialing by pulse with a small circuit conected to POTS that consume aprox 30mA and a switch that open/shut, you can obtain.

If you want dialing by DTMFs then using HT1381. This IC is the best.

microcontroller with dialer

Hi

Let me give you some more details.
I have to make a sort of alarm system for my bachelor project, that dials a specific number when a sensor is triggered, and sends a caller id code. Also, it may be useful to make a receiver that sneds the caller id and other params (calling time, etc) to a PC through some standard link. I think this could easuly be extended to a simplex V32 modem.

The requirements are:
1. It has to be built around a generic uC, prefferably a PIC, because dedicated chips would provide solutions of insufficient difficulty.
2. It has to use pulse dialling, because my home phone line is connected standard analog central. I could use someone else's line but it's better to stick with mine for testing (people get scared when they see gadgets connected to their home electronic gear).
3. It has to have a minumum of additional analog electronics connected to it.

Sorry!!!
I'm confuse, HT1381 is no a dialer.
I worked at past with HT9200. It's very simple to drive

this is exactly what you want

interfacing dtmf dialer with micro controller

and also you can use this one

HI
how can I detect that the number I've dialled is busy and then redial it?
