ATM Switch over FPGA Technology
I am near to decide this as my subject for my BS Thesis.
but need your help........I'm an electronic student and don't have enough information about ATM switches ,... this is offer of my professor...
I appreciate your ideas about this as a final year project.(every thing that you want..)
do you have any more and better idea around it.....I'm not familiar with Communication matters actually I have some exp with FPGAs and a beginner in DSP and not familiar with some industrial matters.... so I need your advice for this subject what do you think about it?
is there any better component or better solution in this area (with FPGA)?
do you have another advice or subject?
Do communication industry has some more and deep problem around it?
or anything else that you think would be good for me to know....

ATM Switch with FPGA

OK
at least give me some information about ATM switches what they do and if possible some book about it.....

Thank.

Re: ATM Switch with FPGA

First you need to have a fundamental ATM technology, network switch technology, queuing/scheduling algorithms, and some basic system knowledges to tie all these pieces together.

The fundamental of ATM is that it operating quanta is 53 bytes cell where the first 5 bytes are header and the remaining 48 bytes are payload. There are two modes - UNI and NNI.

Hope this will get you pass the first hurdle.

Cheers,

ATM Switch with FPGA

i have book of ATM and some papers also. plz donate 100 points first then i'll upload the same.bye.

ATM Switch with FPGA

Thank you
suru I just have 95.20 points.....i'll donate you...but are those books and files are so unique and too hard to find in internet?

:::::
suru if it's possible give the title of your book for compare?
is it a scanned book? or ebook? ?? give me some information....

Re: ATM Switch with FPGA

Some points:
For a short and self contained introduction on ATM, see BP Lathi.

Note that ATM switching invloves no signal processing, it just working with data.

ATM is a topic that is very software oriented in the sense it the system would be some switching hardware running under the control of a program. So a real switch will need to be configured by a processor, hence your design could contain a processor core or external config possibilities. Most of the "intelligence" would come from software.

You need to narrow down your scope, ATM is vast. How _exactly_ are you going to show it working? Begin from this question and work out details
