Is it necessary to know SKILL when doing layouts in cadence?

Cadence+SKILL

hi,

is it necessary to know SKILL when doing huge layouts on cadence virtuoso..?

i know that "Analog Artist" is used for circuit simulation...is it used for both analog and digital designs...? what other tools can be used for simulation..? what about mixed-signal designs..?

where can i get the cadence documentation..? i tried to find the HELP menu, but in vain..!

thanks in advance :)
 

Cadence+SKILL

use the command cdsdoc , this will open the help documentation files

ADE is for analog , the AMS is used in mixed signal design

Knowing skill will definitely make your job easier. But u can still continue using all available functionalities in cadence for ur design

For mixed signal, automation is needed.

i think if u will design a huge digital chips , u need to use encounter platform , for complete digital backend , from gate netlist to GDSII

aha, so ADE is the Analog Design Environment, and you can choose whatever simulator it uses; HSpice, Spectre, etc...

exactly , and if u want to use the VHDL -AMS , u need to use the AMS environment
