simple clock circuit

Hi im looking for a simple clock circuit using 7 segment displays for my college project. Does anybody know a site with small projects/circuit diagrams? Iv had a look but i can only find PIC clocks and i dont think im ready for those yet.

Thanks for the help

Re: simple clock circuit

Hi !

A quick search for "digital clock schematic" using GOOGLE give me this site:

http://elektronik.kai-uwe-schmidt.de/digital_uhr_en.php

I see that this project is an old conventional digital clock using counters integrated circuits and seven segment decoders. This is pure hardware and no software at all.
The restriction is about the precision, because it uses a 555 astable for oscilations. Better if you use mains line frequency (60 or 50Hz) or a crystal oscillator.

After all, I prefer to use microcontrollers, because you use less components (with a PIC uC, you would use only one !!!) and you got a simpler circuit. The downside is that you have to learn how to program it (not hard).

good luck

Re: simple clock circuit

Thanks mate, iv been searching google all night and couldnt find a decent circuit. I didnt want to try a PIC because i havnt got much time to test and build the circuit. This looks tidy though, thanks

Re: simple clock circuit

Iv found the circuit im going to use now but im having trouble getting hold of a discontinued chip. Its the CMOS 4510 BCD counter, does anybody know of a newer chip that can replace it or of somewere were i could get one? I dont mind shipping them into the uk
Thanks for any help
