controlling solenoid by multiplexing

can we control solenoid matrix by multiplexing?
 

what will be technique for controlling the solenoid matrix?
 

what kind of matrix you have number of row number or coulmn ?what is the total number solenoid you have in your matrix design?
 

2x3 matrix x 7, 42 solenoids
 

I don't know what 2x3x7 exactly means. Circuit?

I believe you could use solenoids in a matrix with switching and additional free-wheeling diodes. The applied voltage has to be multiplied by the inverse duty cycle. Practically solenoids with relative low voltage would be preferred.

Alternatively filter capacitors could be connected parallel to each solenoid, maintaining the peak voltage applied in active phase. Matrix drivers must supply respective high peak currents.

2x3 matrix (5 drivers) doesn't seem to offer considerable advantage over non-multiplexed (6 drivers).

so we can drive it non multiplexed right?

but in array there is 7 members so we can save 7bits?
 

The problem is really how many solenoids must it be possible to activate at the same time. If your 2x3 matrixes each only activate 1 solenoid at any time, you can use the 2x3 matrix. If your 2x3x7 matrix only has exactly 1 solenoid activated at any time, you may make one big matrix incorporating all the 42 solenoids, like 6x7.
But I suspect this is not the case. If you for example has 7 solenoids active, one in each 2x3 matrix, you need to make 7 2x3 matrixes.

It all depends on what your setup is used for?

What I'm relative sure you can't do, is to time multiplex several solenoids at the same time. This is due to the magnetic properties of the solenoid. You need a stable ON condition.

ok, so i dont have to waste time on multiplexing and have to treat as array, right ?
 

If you have a problem with the number of outputs for controlling 42 solenoids, you can for example use SPI and a number of shiftregisters to control the solenoid drivers.

yes, i am using shiftregisters, but i was not sure about multiplexing, now path clear, thanks all
