I looked through the Hardware specification of the SIM300 and the User manual of the SIM900. The following things i found:

1. The power supply of SIM300 is from a single voltage source of VBAT= 3.4V...4.5V. In some case, the ripple in a transmit burst may cause voltage drops when current consumption rises to typical peaks of 2A, So the power supply must be able to provide sufficient current up to 2A. They didint mention the avg current consumption. SO how could i know?

2. Please find the attached image: (Power ratings of the SIM900). Cant understand it doubt.JPG.

Thanks

hi karthiprime,

in this image module i/p voltage is 4.2-13vdc. we have to give current rating as 500mA as i/p

as far my experience with GSM modules from past year concern the module works at general nominal voltage of 5v to 6v the current that is consumed depends upon the functionality of your device how you use and what application you use but on an average it consumes around 550ma

Hi madhusuthanan, thanks for the reply.

Lets say i connect 5 VDC. As per this, the current consumption will be btw 40 to 500mA??

Hi balucyber124,

U meant for the both SIM300 and SIM900 modules?
