    How to calculate dropping resistor?

    Say i have something that takes 9V @ 1ampere dc fed from a 12v regulated source. What resistor / calculation to use to get the correct ohms in series to make the voltage within 9v +/- 1v.

    It looks like there should be a cap across the output. And WTF is with the cap inside the rectfier? Also i agree with the above post that the regulator should be heatsinked.

    Also GE transistors operate at .3v instead of .5v for silicon. OFFTOPIC: I wonder why back in the old days, it was mainly pnps but now mainly npns.

    Any 12 volt relay should trigger at 7.2v. Usually relays only take around 100ma.
