IBM,SONY and TOSHIBA has developed a new mircroprocessor called CELL BROAD BAND ENGINE., new and one of its kind. it has 9 processors inside. primarily developed for the PS3.

for begineers i think u should be good enough with 8051 microcontroller
i will strongly recommend 'the 8051 microcontroller and embedded systems' by mazidi and mazidi.
in india the scope for the DSP is good.
but u need to thorough with basics.
have a good knowledge of MATLAB+one TOOLBOX.
if possible have a practiacal knowledge of one DSP processor, TMSXXXXXX,SHARC,TI...
above all have faith in u
