Number of ground bonwdires in MMIC

Hi All, I read from a MMIC datasheet mentioning the number of bondwire connected to ground should be as much as possible, I wonder what is the reason of this? Ground bounce? Thanks in advance!

[SOLVED] Simulating thin film resistor in ADS

Only bonding wires... does it imply that I need to define another substrate, in case air, on top of the alumina, and make another "via" between "bond" and "cond"? I'll try this way. Thanks!

[SOLVED] Simulating thin film resistor in ADS

Here you have it: The overlap precedence is: bond (0) -> cond (1) -> res (2)

[SOLVED] Simulating thin film resistor in ADS

Hi volker, Sorry to bother you again. I have a similar question here, adding ribbon in the layout. I assume the ribbon's layer should be also defined as thin-film resistor did, but apparently the results seems not right, could you give me a hand? I defined "bond" (overlap precedence 0), "cond"...

Distance of DC bias on CML output

Hello everyone, As I know, usually people try to have the DC bias as close as possible for pulling up a CML output, but how close it should be? Is there any formula about it? Thanks! Mario Young

    DC Coupling of CML output

Maybe I should add one more comment. Instead of having high load impedance, I noticed the performance is better by raising the impedance of pull-up resistor in my previous schematic (terminal 2 is kept to 50-ohm), and apparently it is contrary to the original explanation.[COLOR="Silver"]

    DC Coupling of CML output

It sounds to me the previous assumption that I made wasn't too far from the right path, but how can we probe it in simulation? Because I ran in ADS with a high-resistance output terminal (50K-Ohm), and its result is worse than 50-Ohm output terminal which is confusing me. I have attached the...

    DC Coupling of CML output

Hello everyone, I was looking on a product datasheet and found something confusing me: on CML output, with 50-ohm pull-up resistors, "the input impedance of the following stage should be high", but why? In my understanding, when we are simply considering RF signals, the equivalent input...

Thanks a lot volker! Yeah~ it works :)

[SOLVED] Simulating thin film resistor in ADS

Yes, I didn't add the resistance sheet, I thought it could be ignored. However, I tried with the resistance sheet added, but the results are similar. But I'm wondering if there is anything wrong with the settings, thus I'm also posting it here. BTW, there is something that I'm confused, in thin...

[SOLVED] Simulating thin film resistor in ADS

Hello everyone, I have encountered a problem with thin film resistor simulation, and I hope someone could give me a hand on this. Thanks in advance! It's a simple design with TFR and microstrip, but simulation results from schematic and layout are quite different, I checked several time but I...

[SOLVED] Vcc trace configuration in Momentum

Hello everyone, For Vcc traces, how should we treat them in momemtum simulation? Assigning internal port or? Thanks! Mario Young

    Bias Tee-Design or Circuit

Does it mean it is impossible to implement inductor with microstrip reaching 40GHz? I was hoping to find some solutions using microstrip, but it seems I may need to change my direction, searching for discrete components...

Designing inductor in ADS: How to determine the parameters?

Hi folks, Thanks for all your replies, these helped me a lot... I found from a textbook (Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit Design, 2nd Edition, J. Rogers and C. Plett: Section 6.17 "Layout of Spiral Inductors") very clear explanation about it, the only difference is, as volkver mentioned, I'm...
