by AMS environment do you mean the mixed signal simulation environment? if so you define the analog models from affirma window, setup->model libraries after selecting the simulator as spectreVerilog or spectreSVerilog. I haven't run the sample simulations so I have no idea about them.

also for the integer-n, your frequency step size is limited with your crystal oscillator frequency, you can only generate integer multiples of the input frequency.
to use the best of both worlds, do the layout in cadence, then extract the netlist file to hspice format, then import it into @ds. I don't know which tool is better but for phase noise simulations of the oscillators there was a difference of 5dBc!!!
as far as I know, @DS and Switcap are the softwares capable of doing this. Switcap was developed at Columbia University and it's not distributed anymore. If I am not mistaken using @DS you can run transient noise analysis.
