You need to create some sort of mapping file that will show which drawing layer and purpose corresponds to which GDSII stream number. Here's an example of the contents of such a file below. Many times, a PDK already has this mapping file for you and you should use that if it already exists...
V13.56 is now available and we've added many new behind the scenes enhancements to be able to handle much larger geometries, especially when it comes to pin to port recognition. We've also included many new scripts for automation with merging ground planes, changing the via drawing layer for...
Ok, that's good....so you don't have to combine the dielectrics to make the initial mesh. However, if it still takes too much memory and simulation time and you do still have to combine the dielectrics, you want to make sure to combine them in parallel. If you need help, please don't hesitate...
Have you had any luck figuring this out? If you still need help, let me know. You might need a simple mapping file to map the GDSII numbers into the correct drawing layers.

You need to setup environment variables first to point to MMSIM and then you need to add the bin to your PATH. This is what I do with my scripts.
MMSIMHOME=/diskt/app/cadence/virtuoso/mmsim71; export MMSIMHOME
PATH=$PATH:$MMSIMHOME/tools/bin:$MMSIMHOME/tools/dfII/bin; export PATH
Then in the...
I'm investigating this same topic as well and it looks like it's a way to create isolation. If you look on page 430 of the design manual, you can see what it looks like and how designing the ring a certain way can produce different resistance.
This is a quote from the manual below.
"By...
I agree that the main way to reduce simulation time in this case with HFSS is to combine the dielectrics together. A 3D planar EM software is available from Sonnet that allows you to simulate these types of structures without simplifying the dielectrics because only the metal is meshed in...
ads internal port calibrated
Sonnet released V12.52 this past April and one of the new features in the Sonnet AWR Microwave Office Interface is to automatically convert the via ports created with em extraction into co-calibrated ports. At this point, the ports are ungrouped but they are much...
ocean skill cadence reference manual
I would suggest taking the SKILL Language Class at a Cadence location. It's usually about 5 days long and is very helpful especially for a beginner. You learn about the syntax and how to create menus, read and write from files, etc. The class is split up...
