How to Judge Whether IC is Working Correctly in Electronic Circuit or Not

When doing repairs, it may not be worth figuring out what chip is or is not working correctly. Sometimes it's easier just to replace all the active components and maybe any old aluminum electrolytic capacitors and cross your fingers. Or if you have any insight to how the thing works you can...

Zuken Cadstar One or more component layers exceed error

I use an older version of CadStar, so my advice may not be perfect. If you go into the component footprint library, you should be able to look at the layers and see how many layers it has. See if there a default design with the same number of layers. I don't have CS in front of me right now...

Why are so many components "not in stock" in Farnell?

You can check a site like octopart that will show you stock levels for a bunch of distributors or go the manufacturer of the part you are looking for and search their distributor list. Sometimes they have distributor stock levels too. You also have to figure out which distributors sell to...

Whats the ideal way to ground for esd?

Re: ideal way to ground fro esd In the US at least, you can replace the center screw that holds the cover on your outlet with a longer one, then run a wire from the mat to the center screw with a ring tongue terminal. If the outlet is wired correctly, the center screw should be grounded.

PCB Board problem with +17V portion

It may be easier to just replace parts than to try to diagnose. Remove and replace all the electrolytics and look for damage under them from leaking. Maybe replace all the Zener's, they're cheap. Replace the LM350 if you can, it's the only active part.

    Peltier Cooler Temperature

I've never played with them, but isn't there a limit to how much of a temperature change you can have across one plate? Maybe try stacking another plate with the first one to boost your cooling.

NEED: A Good Resonably Priced "Hot Air Gun For Soldering QFN Chips"

I ordered a cheap Chinese made hot air / iron workstation from Ebay maybe 18 months ago. It was only $45. I took it apart when I got it to check for any obvious safety issues from cheap construction, but I didn't find any. It's worked well ever since with near daily use on the iron at least...

Best way to repair bent pc and gold contacts

Bend the PCB back with pliers. It will be more art than science, but try to get it back to the original shape without mauling more of the plastic case. Try to realign the plastic guides with the blunt side of an exacto knife blade, or some other fine instrument. Compare it to another...

PCB trace used as a fuse?

A trace used as a fuse is worse than no fuse, it's an ignition source for a fire. The flammability ratings of PCB laminates don't come from being fire resistant like asbestos. They're classified as self-extinguishing, meaning that when they burn (and they do, b/c they are flammable) they...

Can you connect an AC load to a 5V DC relay?

If you're driving a motor (as FvM said, an inductive load) the relay will be severely de-rated from the maximum resistive load that's usually printed on the relay. Make sure you look up the maximum motor size you can switch.

    measurement of capacitors

I think electrolytics can have a tolerance of +80% / -20%, so your readings may actually be right on.
