DOT-matrix display(LED matrix) points for a good design.

i have made one but not satisfied with result because i want more dot matrix. i am confused that by using more dot matrix my scan or say refresh rate will decrease does any body here have experience of working with more dot matrix if yes than please provide some solution.

    zener power supply circuit

sorry but can you briefly tell me about how to select zener diode watt capacity

    Voltage regulator options

78xx are good cheaper and easy to use but if you want a good switching regulator with line voltage regulation than you must go for lm2575 it will not be cheaper

    zener power supply circuit

your vs is 15 max so i = 15/200 = .075 A and the power consumption will be i2r that will be .075*.075*200 nearly 1.125 that means you will require 2 watts zener diode and 2 watts resistor for your design
