such as

therefore , its price is cheaper than 89c51

In my opinion , you should use PIC for complex project
in my country ,they buy graphic LCD at very low cost .
I have one trick that , if you have a cell phone which has broken down , you can get its LCD to use .

I also use RS-232 interface to connect my PC to Microcontroller in order to control something ,such as turn on /off relay control ledmatrix , i usually use IC max232 to convert the 12 volt DC of PC to 5V DC for MCU it runs so good .

I know some type of MCU such as 89c51 ,or PIC .89c51 has 4 port P0,P1,P2 and P3 .
Port P0 is open colletor device .therefore it needs to have a pull up resistor .I think 10K is popular.
