Most Windows applications won't work. What you could try doing is:
a. Try running the exe under wine and see if that works
b. If it doesn't, install VMware or Qemu and install Windows inside that and then install your application under Windows.

Your problem is likely that you have a winmodem, which uses drivers to simulate real hardware. Step 1 would be to identify your modem. You can do either one of these:
