    UART Pin Protection from +/-12V

I have a UART pin on my micro that I'm trying to protect from +12V and -12V. The pin is tolerant of between -0.5V and 5.5V. I've put a Zener on the pin to handle the situation of +12V, but it won't work for the -12V as Zener's have a drop of 0.7V, thus making the voltage on my UART pin -0.7V...

Explanation of the concept of "wait states"

Wait States Thanks Sunderwood, that was a LOT of help. I can definately see how a greater understanding of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (blessed be his name...) would help me to better understand this! ;-)

Explanation of the concept of "wait states"

Re: Wait States Thanks guys that helps. So basically if a microcontroller is said to have zero-wait state flash access, it means that it is able to access its flash at the core's maximum bus speed? Also, what is FSM? I'd be happy to read up on it, but I'm not familiar with the acronym.

Explanation of the concept of "wait states"

Can anyone explain to me the idea of "wait states" what they are, and why they are necessary? Thanks!

Inductively detecting an AC Voltage in a Wire

I don't think its the diodes. I think everyone has hit it on the head that the voltage I'm seeing is just a capacitive coupling between the two wires and no real current is flowing through my wire. I think the same has been the case when I'm using the toroidal core with wire wound around it...

Inductively detecting an AC Voltage in a Wire

scope ac voltage So do you think it would work if I went with a large off the shelf toroidal inductor that had a center opening large enough to run one of the wires through? Added after 1 hours 20 minutes: Sinisa, I'm having a hard time seeing how your circuit works. Is that 10k resistor...

Inductively detecting an AC Voltage in a Wire

inductive current sensor Thanks for all the responses guys. This is definately a lot of help. So I went and got a toroidal ferrite core and wound my sensing wire around it (it now looks like a standard toroidal inductor). I put one of the AC wires through the center of the toroidal core to...

Inductively detecting an AC Voltage in a Wire

I'm an AC idiot so I could use some help as I try to better myself. I am trying to build a low cost, low power circuit that will detect when an AC voltage is passing through a set of wires, and then blink an LED to indicate this. I don't want to tap into the AC wires, but want to sense that...
