Hi guys

am new to the forum , need a little help with a zener regulator design , am tryign to build a zener regulator which when powered from the ac lines 115 V and 60 hz ,will provide upto 5 volts and 120 milliamperes , the diagram attached below does give 5 volts but give a current which is very less about 20 milliamperes , i dont want to use a transformer in the design , can a darlington pair be used to pump the output current , or is there any other way to modify this design .

all suggestions welcomed .

thank you

This configuration for currents such as 100mA and bigger is just dengerous.
Hypothetically, if you would like to generate currentof 100mA from 120V/60Hz supply using a capacitor you should use >100µF capacitor and power rating of a zener diode would be something >5W ..

For 100mA/5V you better employ a small transformer and a 5V voltage regulator and forget about this non-isolate circuit and other "out-of-the-blue" ideas ..

That circuit can give you a shock and will might also give you the shock to never try electronics again. So better find a cheap tranformer and build a better power supply.
