WLAN MAC DESIGN Help..

HI all,
can anyone tell me where to start for designing a wlan mac chip. I am studying the IEEE 802.11 spec downloaded from the IEEE website.

Any Links, design docs etc are welcome

The data sheets of other dot11 chip set (Athero or Intersil) may help.
