Wireless Irrigarion system

i am doing project on Smart irrigation, and i am confused that how data are transmitted wirelessly from sensor ,And how data are collected wirelessly ?
Which transceiver module should i use?? and it should be low cost.

In my opinion,the hardware of wireless sensor has reached a certain level.And if you want to reduce energy consumption of sensors,you must design a efficient routing algorithm.
