hi all,

Why we are using only D Flip-Flop in IC design. Why not all other Flip-Flops.

Prithivi.

Re: D Flip-Flop

depends upon the IC design......like Toggle flip flops are used in frequency dividers....
or elaborate your question....

D Flip-Flop

You can build most any flip flop using a D-flop and some gates.

Re: D Flip-Flop

In most of the complex digital designs, we need storage like registers, memory etc which can be build with D FF's, other FF's are also used but less often as the need arises.

Re: D Flip-Flop

D flip flop is the basic flop. It can be used as memories (which is used in many applications). It can also be used as dividers by just adding a not gate. Moreover other flops are not easy to use/modify as D flip flop

Re: D Flip-Flop

t ff is also used in frequency dividers....

Re: D Flip-Flop

D Flipflop is completely scannable(Controllable & Testable).

Re: D Flip-Flop

Hi all,

Thank you for your reply.

Prithivi.

Re: D Flip-Flop

less area and less power consumption

Re: D Flip-Flop

D-FF will take less power consumption than any other flops.
T-FF is designed from D-FF with combo logic.
JF-FF is having 2 inputs to toggle. It will be difficult to design as well as controlling the switching activity ..

and more advantages. Please read John knight Digitial slides from Carleton University..

Sam

D Flip-Flop

Design a circuit with d ff is easy and also in case of jk ff we required to handle 2 input which is difficult as weel as controlling of both input is also not easy in case of large design.
As sam said D ff also take less power.
