Why ultrasonic transducer pair is costly?

what transducers are you referring to? not all transducers are costly... there are low cost transducers used in many application like medical and industrial..

I mean the transducers used in projects like ultrasonic range finder, ultrasonic obstacle detector etc... I came to know that those pair cost around 500 INR.
 

I think you can find them in lower price.
A quick search in ebay showed transmitter/receiver pairs like this for about $5 US



or some which include a driving circuit as well for about $7-9 US
