It makes things too powerful. Say you are designing an UART and you want to
check the Tx part of it. With tcl/Tk you can build a virtual hyper terminal to which
can interact with ur RTL and show you in real time what ur UART is transmitting!!!
This is one simple example there are many. Try out Modelsim it has powerful tcl/tk
interface! There you will fine more interesting examples like this.
since tcl is tool command language !!! It is universal for some kinds of eda tools!!!
also , it can be use many time for late design over and over!! of couse , perl is very powerful , but it is good for handling the .txt file , e.g edit the netlist .
hi all,
can anybody post some tutorial on tcl that has commands related to working with eda environment alone?its difficult to learn everyhting in tcl?
The tcl/tk commands in any eda tool will have extensions particular to that tool so it dosent help learning any one specific set of tool commands. Just get a basic grounding of Tcl then you can deal with any eda tool that uses tcl. Also check out this site which has some great TCL stuff for eda: www.adeptix.com/tclforeda
I am the user of Perl....Is there any converter for perl to tcl ? or bidirection converter is even better...There are several eda tools made by Perl, I just don't know why they don't support perl....It's will be better if perl interpreter is insided....
