Why do we use fusible resistor instead of a fuse?
What is the different?

Re: fusible resistor

Its same as usual fuse, just aded the resistance... Can be used for greater currents, i think...

fusible resistor

I found the reason........because it is much cheaper than a fuse.........
In fact, most fusible resistor break very slowly. For example, it may need 30seconds to break by a current which is 35 times greater than the rated current...... so it is only good for preventing fire when, say, Live short to Neutral.....:p

fusible resistor cost is low (bulk quantity)

fuses are different types slow blown and fast acting etc...

As per our application we can select the fuse type.

Simply because it is equivalent to a seperate fuse and resistor in series.

Re: fusible resistor

Such resistor will limit current surge in the circuit and also provides delay. Resistance will dramatically increase with temperature and limit current proportionally.
