[SOLVED] Why are mains harmonics such a problem in the electric utility grid?

Can you confirm that the reason that mains harmonics (100Hz – 2Khz) need to be restricted in the mains supply system is because they cause core losses in the supply system transformers? Higher frequencies would also do this, but they tend to get filtered out by the mains wiring inductance and capacitance.
 

not only that but extra currents in PFC capacitor banks, more current in ckt breakers and wires, and triplens overload the neutral ...
