- Applications: Protection of generators, transformers, lines, feeders, and bus bars.

Please advise which of the following books is good for Power System (undergraduate level, syllabus quoted as above):

1. Weedy B.M., Electric Power Systems, 3rd Edition, John Wiley & Sons, 1988.
2. John J. Grainger, Stevenson W.D., Element of Power System Analysis, 4th Edition, McGraw Hill, 1982.
3. Arigalla, J.C.P. Arnold, B.J. Harku, Computer Modelling Of Electrical Power System, Wiley, 1983.
4. Nagrath I.S., Kothari D.P., Modern Power System Analysis, 2nd Edition., Tata McGraw Hill New Delhi, 2001.
5. Glover J.D, Sarma M.S., Power System Analysis and Design, 3rd Edition, Brooks/Cole, USA, 2002.
6. Chapman S.J., Electric Machinery and Power System Fundamentals, 1st Edition, McGraw Hill, New York, 2002.
7. P.M. Anderson, Power System Protection, IEEE Press, 1998.

Thank you

I agree. Foe newbie it is good to concentrate at only one book for a start in order not to get lost in all that theory. Protection, machine elements and design of substations sholud be learned later. For a start study phasors, three phase calculus, all voltage/current/power calculations, types of networks, structure of an complete power system (generating, transmission and distribution), power flow calculations.

Regards.

You can have a look at Power Systems by Soni, Battnagar, Charavarthy.
There are four authors, I dont remember the fourth.Good enough for an undergrad
course.
