phototransistor vs photodiode vs ldr

Hi all....
i want to know which one is better : Photodiode or Phototransistor ? and give me the reason? coz i want to use light senor for my project. it's better if there any some reference about it.
thanks :)

regards,
Elits

phototransistor better?

The diode is faster and the transistor has more electrons out per photon in. It all depends on the speed of the signal you are using.

photodiode ldr faster

As a light sensor why wouldn't you use an LDR (Light dependant resistor) ?

A multimeter can be used to find the resistance in darkness and bright light, these are the typical results for a standard LDR:
Darkness: maximum resistance, about 1M.
Very bright light: minimum resistance, about 100.
For many years the standard LDR has been the ORP12, now the NORPS12, which is about 13mm diameter. Miniature LDRs are also available and their diameter is about 5mm.
An LDR may be connected either way round and no special precautions are required when soldering.
Applcation example:
"LDR LIGHT/DARK ACTIVATED RELAY SWITCH"

photodiode phototransistor

Depends on Application...

ldr versus phototransistor

if u want to use photo detecting functions to switch something then phototransistor is better to use...

hi

photodiode is faster than phototransistor but phototransistor is more sensitive

Phototransistor is better. You can use better design with proper compensation with transistor only , not with photo diode.
It is alos more reliable than photo diode.

phototransister is better options as it can be used in number of applications and you can modii the design as well
