Which of these two constant gm circuits work?

Hello, all

I was wondering which one of the following circuit works and it is on page 332 from Thomas Lee's book.

Should be the left one. You need a positive and negative feedback in this circuit. If the resistor is not there you have only positive one and the circuit will latch. The resistor introduces negative feedback in the left circuit but not in the right one.
