the voltage between C1 is U AND the value of C1=C2=C

When the switch J1 is open the Energy of the system is E1=1/2C*U*U

When the switch J1 is closed, the voltage through the 2 paralelled capacitors C1 and C2 is 1/2U

so the energy of the system is E2=0.5*(0.5U)*(0.5U)*(2C)=0.5E1

so the question is where is the energy gone????
what does it changes into???

Thanks

actually total energy is calculated by adding up energies accross/of different parts of circuit

when switch is closed

calculate energy accross both capacitors individually and then addup them
see the result

its the actual as E1
