Root Locus Technique

Is Root Locus Technique used only for systems with unity gain in feedback loop?

Re: Root Locus Technique

Not necessarily.
You can apply the root locus technique to a system with a feedback gain of H which may not be unity.
To draw the root locus you just have to make the open loop transfer function equal to -1 (for negative feedback) and 1 (for positive feedback).

Root Locus Technique

Not, the root locus can be used in all linear systems.

Re: Root Locus Technique

not necessarily unity feed back system . it is the method used to plot the locus of the poles or zeros of a system when the gain is varied.

Re: Root Locus Technique

Not necessary.
A non unit gain feedback is equivalent to a unit gain feedback with serialized 1/H block at its output. H is the original non unit gain in feedback path.

Re: Root Locus Technique

The very definition of the root locus is the path formed by closed-loop poles as gain varies.

Root Locus Technique

no root locus technique can be evaluated for linear systems whose loop gain varies from zero to infinity
but loop must be closed .
