Is there any way I could extract the full name/ purpose of each layer from the pdk?

To find the file, you can search with Linux "find" command: find <path> -type f -exec grep -H 'metal1' {} \; or (if you know the file name or a prt of the file name): find <path> -name '*filename*' -ls
