What's the function of metal resistor layout PCELL?

When I check my PDK, I see metal resistor layout PCELL. What is the usage of this PCELL. I don't think it is use to implement resistor since the resistance is very small.

As for sch metal resistor PCELL, I think we use it during pre-layout simulation to simulate the effect of the metal connection.

metal resistor has two use
One is resistor with a very small resistor in some applications like LDO to create zero.
The other is simulation to predict post layout effect

Another useful thing is when you want to connect two pins to the same net. Without metal resistors the LVS tool would complain

generally it has got more prescision because of it's comaritive large size.
