What's the difference between a logic strobe signal and a clock signal?

When is a strobe signal used mostly?

I have seen a logic probe in the 70's that had a strobe input. I'm not sure who made it, but it was to measure a flips flips output when the logic probe was triggered by a strobe signal. The Logic probe had a trigger input or strobe input which you don't see often.
