What would be the runtime of 500 element design in HSPICE?

hspice runtime

Hi all,

I need to come out with a timeframe for my analog design which consists of around 500 elements and I am using HSPICE.

Can anyone tell me how long would the runtime of HSPICE be? Anyone has any idea?

well, it does not only depend on the number of elements (but i think you mean transistors). The frequency of the circuit you are operating, and the timestep algorithm you choose has also important impact. What is your circuit?
 

Let's say for example, it's a decoder with 500 elements (means capacitors & resistors included) and the frequency is 400kHz with timestep of 0.1ns.

How long would it take?

Or you can give me any example of a circuit which you have simulated? and estimation of runtime?

how fast is your clock
run > 100 clk is ok

When your simulation frequency is 400 KHz, keep
the time step as 1 ns, rather than 0.1 ns. Because
higher time step will result in quicker simulation.
If you simulate your circuit at 400 KHz with 1 ns
step, may for a transient simulation of 25 us, your
simulator takes 6 hours.
But it also depends on the server on which you
run the simulation. The above is only a rough estimate.

very fast for open loop
close loop simulation will take longer time to run

also, hspice simulation under local linux machine is 3x faster than mainframe.
