Harmonic Balance

when simulating a VCO using Harmonic Balance in ADS, what should i do with the vco input? i have connected it to a term ,put a Harmonic Balance Block,put an OscPort, named the output wire Vout and plot HB.vout, but there is no output. is there anything else i forgat to do?

Harmonic Balance

It's ok.. You'll put a name of output node and an ampermeter in series to load connection.

If your load is different than 50 ohm, you have to write this equation to calculate the power.

P=1/2*real(Vout*conj(Iout))

Otherwise the power is found directly from Vout in dBm

Re: Harmonic Balance

i have put a term of 50ohm but there in no output in harmonic balance simulation, but in transient simulation there is a sin wave, this vco is from Rhea's book its center frequency is 939MHz .

Re: Harmonic Balance

try to remove the two termination

wish this help

Re: Harmonic Balance

i have tried that but it didn't work, i tried also to sweep a dc source as an input to the vco but with no use, in Rhea's book he used a varactor i used a capacitor so that i have only one output frequency for trial ,there is a signal in the transient analysis but no output in Harmonic balance simulation, i would appreciate if anyone could check the ADS2004A project file.

Re: Harmonic Balance

i have tried the project , and it is working very good
u have to adjust the over sampling setup in harmoic balanced
see the attached files

wish this help
