What mean "glass passivated" Devices ?

Hi,
I don't know the technical terms "glass passivated device" ,that often appear in some discrete devices data sheet ? Anyone can tell me the means will be highly appreciated!

Glass passivation is applied for many kinds of Si semiconductor components. In manufacture and application semiconductor surfaces are protected against mechanical and chemical attacks by melted-on glass layers.
